Experience the authentic spirit of Cahuita on horseback with Mr. Joe, known as one of the community’s last traditional cowboys. Born and raised in the area, Mr. Joe belongs to the last generation that traveled through Costa Rica’s Southern Caribbean on horseback, long before the road connecting Cahuita with Puerto Limón existed. His stories, local knowledge, and connection to the land make this much more than a horseback ride. The experience takes place on gentle, well-trained horses suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. The relaxed pace allows you to enjoy the scenery while discovering Cahuita from a traditional perspective. The ride continues toward the Caribbean coast, passing through Playa Negra and Playa Grande, where the contrast between the Caribbean Sea and dark volcanic sand creates a beautiful landscape. From there, we continue toward the mouth of Tuba Creek and into a section of tropical rainforest. As you ride through this natural environment, you can observe the tropical vegetation and wildlife of the region while enjoying the sounds and scenery of Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. More than a simple horseback ride, this is an opportunity to experience Cahuita’s history, culture, and nature alongside a local guide who has lived and preserved this tradition for generations.
