Cahuita National Park Hiking Tour Discover the natural beauty of Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast on a guided hike through Cahuita National Park, covering approximately 7 km round trip between the town of Cahuita and Punta Cahuita. The hike follows tropical rainforest trails and beautiful Caribbean beaches, making it an ideal experience for travelers who want to connect with nature, observe wildlife, and learn about one of Costa Rica’s most important coastal ecosystems. Throughout the hike, an experienced bilingual guide provides naturalist interpretation, sharing information about the park’s wildlife, plants, ecosystems, and history. The slow pace of the experience allows time to stop, observe, and appreciate the incredible biodiversity surrounding the trail. Cahuita National Park is home to an impressive variety of wildlife. During the walk, you may encounter sloths resting high in the trees, white-faced capuchin monkeys moving through the canopy, howler monkeys calling from the forest, raccoons searching for food, anteaters, iguanas, and other tropical species. The forest is also an excellent place for birdwatching, with many species living among the trees and vegetation. Look closely and you may also discover colorful Morpho butterflies, orchids, bromeliads, medicinal plants, and other fascinating forms of tropical life. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, as animals move freely through their natural habitat, but every walk offers the opportunity to discover something new. The trail combines shaded sections through the rainforest with stretches along the coast, offering beautiful views of the Caribbean Sea. Upon reaching Punta Cahuita, there is time to rest, enjoy the scenery, and have fresh seasonal tropical fruit before returning along the same trail. The hike takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, depending on the group’s pace, trail conditions, and wildlife observations. It is considered moderate in difficulty and is suitable for people with a basic level of fitness who enjoy walking in natural environments. The tour includes a bilingual guide, naturalist interpretation, and fresh tropical fruit. What to Bring We recommend comfortable clothing, walking shoes, a reusable water bottle, hat, insect repellent, camera, and swimsuit if you would like to enjoy the beaches along the route.
