Service Description

Discover the magic of the tropical rainforest after dark with our guided night wildlife tour in the Cahuita area. As the sun sets, the forest transforms into a completely different world, where nocturnal animals become active and reveal a side of Costa Rica’s Caribbean wildlife that is rarely seen during the day. The tour begins at 5:30 p.m. from our office, where you will meet your experienced bilingual guide. With specialized knowledge of amphibians and reptiles, your guide will help you locate wildlife while sharing fascinating information about each species, including its behavior, habitat, and role in the ecosystem. The walk takes place through a combination of carefully selected private properties and public trails, offering excellent opportunities to observe wildlife in its natural environment. The experience focuses on finding animals that become active after sunset, making every night walk different and unpredictable. Depending on conditions and wildlife activity, you may encounter kinkajous (Potos flavus), olingos (Bassaricyon gabbii), Hoffmann’s two-toed sloths (Choloepus hoffmanni), northern tamanduas (Tamandua mexicana), boas (Boa constrictor), fer-de-lance snakes (Bothrops asper), eyelash vipers (Bothriechis schlegelii), and many other nocturnal species. The tropical rainforest also comes alive with an incredible diversity of amphibians. Among the frogs you may discover are red-eyed tree frogs (Agalychnis callidryas), hourglass tree frogs (Dendropsophus ebraccatus), and giant bullfrogs (Leptodactylus pentadactylus), along with other fascinating species that emerge after dark Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, as animals move freely through their natural habitat and activity varies with weather and environmental conditions. However, the knowledge of the guide and the carefully selected locations provide excellent opportunities to discover the nocturnal biodiversity of the Caribbean rainforest.
